Today is World Kindness Day (13 Nov.). Let’s celebrate it by being kind to animals, that is, by going vegan. For Jesus asserts, “I desire COMPASSION, not sacrifice. Do not condemn the innocent!” (Matthew 12:7). And Micah the prophet states, "With what shall I come before the Lord…? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased... what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love MERCY and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:6-8 NIV).
World Kindness Day was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of nations and kindness-focused organizations that came together with the goal of spreading kindness and compassion globally. The movement itself began in Tokyo, Japan, with the aim of inspiring people to be more compassionate and to create a culture of kindness that transcends borders. Kindness to animals means:
Choosing actions that avoid harm, primarily by going vegan.
Supporting or volunteering at animal shelters and sanctuaries.
Being mindful of the impact that consumer choices have on animals, such as avoiding products tested on animals or made from animal-derived materials.
Treating all living beings with respect and empathy, recognizing that they too experience pain, fear, joy, and love.
