The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) today released its 20th Annual Report, recommending that America link up religious freedom and US-China trade talks; that USA unite with her Asian allies to sanction China for suppressing religious freedom etc. However, the report fails to mention Hong Kong at all. The US in general, including Religion Ambassador Sam Brownback, who visited HK a few months ago, thinks that religious freedom in HK is OK. It is little known that many religious leaders in Hong Kong are members of the CCP, who endeavor to brainwash their believers into worshiping the CCP rather than God. E.g, Archbishop of HK Anglican Church Paul Kwong (2014) questions why Hongkongers should strive for universal suffrage, instead of following the example of Jesus Christ, who, in the face of Pilates who sentenced him to death, remained silent like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered. And Senior Pastor Daniel Ng Chung-man from Kong Fuk Church wants HK Christians to subject themselves to the governing authorities and recommends that pastors/Christians who have taken part in the Occupy Central Movement be excommunicated. Another example. Rev. Chin Kung, Founder of HK Buddha Educational Foundation, praises President Xi Jinping as Bodhisattva come again.
The report advises the State of Department to list 16 countries as Countries of Particular Concern (CPC) for engaging in or tolerating “systematic, ongoing, egregious violations.” They include China, Burma, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Russia, Syria, Vietnam, etc. But the cover of the report alludes to China only. Throughout 2018, US Government officials expressed concern about the worsening situation of religious freedom in China, especially up to 2 million Ugyhurs' being locked up in concentration camps.
